The Order Of Worship: Cause Or Effect?

The writers of the New Testament spent very little time describing their worship services. Justin Martyr’s account is probably the most well-known and earliest description, but aside from not wearing jewelry and hair coverings and rules on tongues, there’s just not much practical detail in the canonical texts as to what these mysterious gatherings should look like. And what is offered (mostly by Paul) is usually in admonishment to a current issue in the early church. They do, however, take up much more real estate talking about the things that happened before the worshiping took place. Continue reading

Worship was great the past two weeks in The Bridge. Bruce taught on prayer to finish our study through the book of James. It’s been an awesome series with Bruce expositing each verse.

Here’s what we sang the past two weeks in The Bridge:

Yesterday was a great day of worship and fellowship. We had an amazing time of prayer and worship in The Bridge and then our annual church wide fellowship at Smiley Hollow last night. Mark preached in The Bridge yesterday morning and challenged us with a message about our prayer life. “Your relationship with Jesus Christ will never rise above your prayer life.” Boom. Powerful.

Here’s what we sang in worship yesterday:

  • Say Say – Kristian Stanfill, “Passion: Awakening”
  • O Praise Him – David Crowder Band, “Illuminate”
  • With Everything – Hillsong United, “This Is Our God (Live)”
Did you enjoy these songs? Leave me some feedback so we can continue making the music at First Baptist better and better!

I went to Catalyst Conference last week. If you haven’t heard of it, you really need to check it out. It’s three days of in your face teaching and preaching and laughing and worship. Such a refreshing time for me. Sometimes you need to be ripped away from the usual and the routine just to get a breath of fresh air. Mark Satterfield listed his top ten quotes from Catalyst here.

Needless to say we had a great time of worship in The Bridge this past Sunday. Here’s what we sang:

Did you enjoy these songs? Let me know how we can make The Bridge better!

Yesterday was another fantastic worship gathering in The Bridge. Mark kicked us off with Scripture then we rocked into some music and had a great pre-message time of worship. Bruce gave a strong message about the Lord’s coming. The we worshiped some more.

Here’s what we sang:

I’m going to the Catalyst Conference in Atlanta this week. You should check it out because it’s going to be amazing. Have a great week!

Worship Setlist: September 18 + 25, 2011

The Bridge was a lot of fun yesterday. We did several of my favorite songs and Mark taught from James 5 about the problems that money brings. I love it when that dude preaches. Even about money.

Sorry for not posting last week, but I was in Alaska and they don’t believe in the internet there. Just kidding. If you were wondering who the dreamy, long-haired fellow was leading for me last Sunday, it was our drummer, Casey Stickley. He and his wife Carmen are a fantastic couple of humans and I love playing music with them.

It was myself, Bob Landham, and Donna Milewski that went on the trip. We were on the ground in Alaska just a little longer than the time it took us to get there and get back. My favorite was the six hour layover in Memphis after our first leg from Nashville of maybe 45 minutes. But hey, I read Bill Bryson’s A Walk In The Woods and finished before we returned home. That’s quite possibly the perfect travel book. I think that two words will sufficiently describe Alaska: 1) beautiful, 2) moose.

Here’s what we sang in The Bridge the past two Sundays:

September 18

September 25

  • Set Free – Chris Tomlin, “Passion: Here For You”
  • Our God – Chris Tomlin, “And If Our God Is For Us”
  • Awakening – Chris Tomlin, “Passion: Awakening”
  • Chosen Generation – Chris Tomlin, “Passion: Awakening”
You’re welcome, Mr. Tomlin.

A Review of 31 Days To Finding Your Blogging Mojo by Bryan Allain

First off, am I the only one who is eternally resigned to picturing ‘mojo’ as the gelatinous sludge housed in a glass capsule from Austin Powers? Ok, just checking. Here’s the book’s cover:

Beautiful, right? Mysterious. Borderline esoteric. I was instantly led to dim my eyes and cross my legs while reading. It didn’t help. I couldn’t see and I cramped up.

Now. Let’s step into the smoky Mojo sauna. Continue reading
